MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Picture
Karin Kelly, Executive Director Teen Success, Inc.
Recently, I was talking with some young mothers in our Teen Success Fresno Program (which is implemented in partnership with Fresno Barrios Unidos) and one participant, April, said she didn’t know where she would be without Teen Success, Inc. and the support of her Advocate. She said she wouldn’t be where she is now - close to graduating high school and planning to apply for the Teen Success, Inc. Scholarship Program.

Every time I talk with our participants, I am in awe of their determination and resilience. They are strong, motivated young women who are working hard to break the cycle of poverty and give their children bright, positive futures. I am so moved by their passion to continue their education and ensure their children are thriving.

As I was leaving our Fresno visit, one of our program graduates, Elice, told me, “Keep raising that money so more moms can be a part of this!”

I am pleased to announce that thanks to you, our amazing donors and funders, we are on track to serve 320 young families this year. Thank you to everyone who invested in our young families in 2018. I am excited to continue sharing with you the incredible accomplishments made possible through your support as we empower young mothers to reach their full potential in school and in life, so their children also thrive.

"New mothers know the morning routine well: Wake up (usually before the crack of dawn), change the baby’s diaper, feed and dress the baby, throw on some clothes, run out the door to drop off the baby at day care, go to work.

In a perfect world of working moms, it would be that simple. But new mothers know it’s not simple. And new teen-aged mothers have more than a few other obstacles." Read the full article here.
ALUMNA SPOTLIGHT: ASHLEY, REDWOOD CITY

Ashley dreamt of going to college, but when she was just 17 years old, she found out she was pregnant. Like most high-school-age moms, she went to a continuation school because it was the only place for her to get childcare and her high school diploma. Unfortunately, continuation schools don't offer college courses to their students.

Still, Ashley is determined to provide the best for her daughter Mia. With hard work, she graduated from Redwood High School a year early and with support from her Teen Success, Inc. Advocate, Ashley began dreaming about her and Mia's futures again.

Read more about Ashley's story.
