![]() East Palo Alto, Teen Success, Inc. facilitators, Ana and Latu, met with Katia and Diosela at the Ravenswood Family Health Center to get them enrolled in the Teen Success, Inc. program. Katia, a 17 year-old who is eight months pregnant, was enrolled in a youth leadership program in her community, but stopped because she was embarrassed and worried they would judge her. She was eager to join Teen Success, Inc. and continue being involved in out-of-school activities in an environment where she could feel safe and comfortable. Diosela, 16-year-old mother of her nine month old son, grew up in a family of eleven children and got pregnant soon after losing her own mother. At the time she didn't care about school, but since the birth of her son, she is re-energized to finish her education. She decided to join Teen Success, Inc. to help her reach this goal.
Teen Success, Inc. is able to reach young mothers like Katia and Diosela in the East Palo Alto community because of its partnership with Ravenswood Family Health Center. The Ravenswood Family Health Center provides a safe space to for members to attend program and is the same place where members and their children receive health care services. The East Palo Alto program meets at the health center every week, all year long. Community partnerships are a critical component for delivery of Teen Success, Inc.'s program. The organizations we partner with are long established within their communities and provide access to the population of young families we serve. Often our partners provide a portfolio of other services for low-income families, including health and education services, making it convenient for mother and child. They are conveniently located within our members' communities to minimize the stress of travel and transportation to and from program. We use this collaborative approach to build upon existing services within our members communities and have deeper, more lasting impact on their lives. Working with community partners allows us to better help teen moms finish high school, develop goals for the future, and get on a path to self-sufficiency.
