Nancy Heinen, Chair
Nancy Heinen is an experienced corporate lawyer and senior executive in both small and multinational corporations. She uses her experience and skills to help social entrepreneurs build and scale innovations intended to tackle pressing social challenges at home and around the world.
Most recently, Nancy was Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of Apple, Inc. In September 1997, Steve Jobs recruited Nancy as a key member of a small executive team at Apple. Nancy was the chief legal officer responsible for overseeing all legal matters, government affairs, and corporate security for Apple worldwide until May 2006. Following over 25 years of corporate and law firm experience, Nancy is now focused on philanthropy and matters of social justice. She is particularly interested in access to quality education and the creation of economic opportunities for disadvantaged women and girls.
Nancy is currently Chairman of the Board and a Partner at Silicon Valley Social Venture Fund. Nancy also serves on several boards and advisory boards, including Embrace, the University of California Berkeley Center for Law, Business and the Economy, Northern California Innocence Project, Illuminate Ventures, and Duarte. She also consults with individuals, start-ups and nonprofit institutions looking to develop their organizational capacity for growth.
Nancy received a B.A. with honors in Psychology and English from the University of California at Berkeley and holds a J.D. from the University of California at Berkeley School of Law (Boalt Hall). In 2011, she was named a Silicon Valley Woman of Influence.
